Comprehensive Volunteer Services

Our Comprehensive Volunteer Services Program focuses on two groups: Community Volunteers who are interested in serving their community and Nonprofits in Western Connecticut that welcome and utilize volunteers. The components of our Comprehensive Volunteer Services Program are:

Volunteer Recruitment and Referral
The Volunteer Center recruits volunteers to benefit nonprofit agencies. Volunteers can assist professional staff with general administrative duties or support the work of special events. Volunteers can also help strengthen infrastructure in areas such as, but not limited to: finance, public relations, technology, or as Board Members. Read more »

 

Board Member Recruitment and Workshops
We recruit volunteers with a wide variety of skill sets and backgrounds to serve on local Nonprofit Boards of Directors. We conduct BOARD MEMBER BASICS and BUILDING A BETTER BOARD workshops to prepare prospective board members and strengthen existing boards. Read more »

 

Volunteer Management Training Series
The comprehensive Volunteer Management Training Series (VMTS) builds the skills of area nonprofit organizations to utilize their volunteers effectively. VMTS participants who have completed all six sessions receive The Volunteer Center's Certificate of Volunteer Management. Read more »

 

Networking and Professional Development
DOVIA — Directors of Volunteers in Agencies is a professional association of directors and supervisors of various volunteer programs in Western Connecticut. DOVIA's mission is to promote volunteer administration through conducting workshops and educational programs and providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and best practices. Read more »

Board Member Round Table is a networking group for members of nonprofit boards of directors. It is a forum to foster the exchange of ideas and best practices, promote professionalism, enhance board leadership skills, and provide great opportunities to network. Read more »

 

Western Connecticut Business Volunteer Council (WCBVC)
The WCBVC is a coalition of businesses and corporations in the Greater Danbury area that promotes volunteerism among their employees to benefit the community. The BVC works to provide its members with an opportunity to exchange information and best practices, as well as, to link the corporate community to area nonprofits. The BVC sponsors three annual initiatives to benefit members of our community: Spring Buddy Baskets, Back-to-School Program and Holiday Fruit Baskets. Read more »

 

Community Service Restitution Program
The Community Service Restitution Program, based in the Danbury Superior Courthouse, provides court-ordered juveniles and adults with appropriate community service placements at nonprofits and other selected sites.

 

Youth Volunteer Corps of Western Connecticut
The Youth Volunteer Corps of Western Connecticut is a team-based volunteer group of diverse youth from all socioeconomic backgrounds. The participants, ranging from ages 11-18, learn about and address community needs through their participation in action projects while developing a lifetime commitment to service. Read more »

 

Seniors Add Valuable Experience (S.A.V.E.) Program
The Seniors Add Valuable Experience (S.A.V.E.) Program connects Danbury senior homeowners with volunteer service in Danbury City Departments and Nonprofit Agencies. The Program began in September 2008 and is administered by The Volunteer Center for the City of Danbury. Participants who complete 100 hours of service are eligible to receive up to $600 in property tax credit for the next year. S.A.V.E. is open to qualifying Danbury residential homeowners ages 65+ with income limits. Read more »
