"The Business Volunteer Council is the bridge that connects non profit organizations to local businesses by matching their needs. It is a valuable resource center for those companies that wants to give back to the community. As a member, I am so proud to be associated with the BVC because of the heart warming projects we are involved in throughout the year."
Sarina Manibanseng, Newtown Savings Bank

"The BVC has been a long standing friend of mine since 1996, when I first joined it was a way to meet others in the community and a way to network among local corporations. The first meeting changed all that, the people from the VC were so infectious and passionate about what they do, it pulled me in instantly.

As a corporation locally we have such an impact here in our own community, to make others within our company aware of people that need help out there or more importantly what our own employees do out there in the community. One of our associates who is working for us currently was voted volunteer of the year and we had no idea until she found out I was a member of the BVC and she volunteered for the VC.

I make it a point to tell all of my clients about the BVC, it’s a way for them to connect within the corporate community."
Debbie Pisacich, Advantage Resourcing

"The BVC has proven to be a valuable link to the community in which we work and live and to the opportunities in which we as a small business can make a great impact.

The BVC not only allows us to assist those in the greatest need in our community, but it also provides us the opportunity to work more cohesively as a team."

Western Connecticut Business Volunteer Council (BVC) "Making it easier for Businesses to make a difference"

Our purpose is to make it easier for businesses to encourage their employees to volunteer. We believe that volunteerism is essential to the well-being for the community; that it is good business to engage business volunteers in meeting community needs.

The Western Connecticut Business Volunteer Council (BVC) is a coalition of businesses and corporations in the Greater Danbury area that promotes volunteerism among their employees to benefit our community. The BVC provides a forum for the exchange of information and best practices and to link the business community to area nonprofits.

Business Volunteers make a difference in our community.

The BVC sponsors annual initiatives to benefit members of our community: Spring Buddy Baskets and Back-to-School Programs.

760 Spring Buddy Baskets were donated by 42 area businesses and corporations and distributed to low-income Danbury preschoolers in April 2007. The baskets were filled with recreational and educational items. This project has served over 5,000 children since it began in 1998.

468 Danbury school children received backpacks with school supplies and gift cards to purchase clothing in August 2007 from the Back-to-School Project. This project has served 4,384 children since 1992.

Managing a Business Volunteer Program is easier with the support of the BVC.

The BVC is a coalition that acts as an informational resource and support network for individuals responsible for developing and/or administering volunteer programs for their businesses.

Members share valuable ideas on managing volunteer programs, such as:

  • How to promote volunteerism at your company.
  • How to establish or strengthen a business volunteer program.
  • How to underwrite expenses of your volunteer program.

How is this accomplished?

  • Meetings are held at convenient locations where members share their ideas and best practices.
  • Meetings where guest speakers from local non-profit agencies speak on the volunteer needs in their organizations.
  • Educational forums and seminars on business volunteer topics.
  • Participation in the BVC community projects.

Your participation counts!

Your efforts also maintain a healthier community, which is essential to a strong business environment. Volunteering promotes teamwork and builds a cohesive, motivated workforce. Membership in the Western CT BVC is open to any corporation or business interested in helping the community.

Your employees benefit
